For many households across the UK, Chinese is a go-to cuisine when ordering a takeaway. Many people love everything this cuisine has to offer and will enjoy eating it with family and friends. Similarly to any other takeaway cuisines, you probably know exactly which main dishes you will go for whenever someone suggests placing an order.

However, Chinese isn’t just known for the huge range of main dishes, there are also lots of different snacks and sides that you can order too and for some, these are the best parts of the meal. If you don’t tend to order different sides and aren’t really sure which ones you would go for then ChefOnline has put together a list which you must try.

Prawn Crackers

It would be very uncommon for you to order a Chinese from a takeaway site and not get given some prawn crackers with your order, so the majority of people will have already tried these. If you haven’t then they are an essential next time you order. Prawn crackers are a form of deep-fried crispy snack that is made from starch and prawn, they’re delicious.

Satay Chicken

This side/appetiser has a very distinctive taste. It is essentially a dish of seasoned, skewered and grilled meat, served with a sauce. The sauce is what makes this dish favoured by many, it is a peanut flavoured sauce and sometimes it may even have a slight spice to it. These chicken skewers are a great starter but also work as a side to add to your main dish.

Sesame Prawn Toast

Lots of people will already order this side, they are an incredibly popular choice in the UK. These little snacks/sides are made from small triangles of bread, brushed with egg, coated with minced shrimp and topped with sesame seeds before being deep-fried. People will either eat them by themselves or some will choose to dip them in sweet and sour sauce.

Pork Dumplings

There are so many different dumplings that are found in various cuisines, so even if you haven’t had a Chinese dumpling you may have had a different type. You can get steamed, boiled and fried dumplings so check which ones your local takeaway delivery offer. The thickness of the dumpling’s dough may also differ but, whichever you get, they all taste amazing.

Crispy Seaweed

Although it is called seaweed, and does look like seaweed, this dish is actually usually made with cabbage that has been dried and then fried. This sweet yet salty side is often eaten alongside other side dishes or as an appetiser. You may find that some restaurants choose to top this dish with sesame seeds, chilli and various spices too.

Spring Rolls

Again, this is a side dish that can be eaten as a side or an appetiser and it is another dish that many people will have already tried. If you’ve never heard of, or tried spring rolls, then you definitely add them to your next order. They are essentially thin crispy pancakes with vegetable or meat fillings. Similarly to prawn toast, people may choose to dip them in sauce before eating.

Ordering a Chinese Takeaway

Next time you order a Chinese make sure you try some of the delicious side dishes we have mentioned above. No matter which restaurant you choose to order from you can guarantee that you will find the majority of these dishes on the menu. They have the ability to change the way you order Chinese food for good.
