Sometimes, foods taste better when paired with something else. It does not always have to be like fries and ketchup or onion dip and crisps. Fruits and vegetables sometimes taste really good when eaten in pair with another food, whether it may be food, vegetable or some cooking ingredient.
The best part is, sometimes the foods eaten in a pair aren’t only just delicious but also nutritionally beneficial. Like the benefit of teamwork. Let’s talk about such four “food teams”.
Spinach & Lemon: Popeye the sailor man’s signature superfood, fresh, munchy spinach is already well known for all the nutritional benefits. It contains vitamins A, C, E, K and B6, folate, Calcium. Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Copper, and Manganese. Also, it is high in protein, fiber, Zinc niacin and specifically Iron.
When lemon juice is sprinkled over spinach, it tastes really yummy and at the same time, it is also nutritious. Because lemon juice helps body to absorb iron even better. Also, the fact that lemon juice is high in vitamin C and flavonoids (good for your brain), Calcium, Copper and Vitamin B complex- makes spinach and lemon a vital combination.
Tomatoes & Olive Oil: Tomatoes are very nutritional, and quite a well-known fact. It contains protein, fiber, Vitamin A, C, K and Vitamin B6, also manganese and folate. It also contains anti-oxidants like lycopene and carotenoids. But these antioxidants are fat-soluble. And therefore needs to be consumed with oil. And what is a better oil than olive oil? Olive oil is really good for your body. It stimulates brain, helps with controlling cholesterol, blood pressure and growth of cancer. So, these two food goes really well together. So, next time sauté the tomatoes with some olive oil next time you are eating those.
Fish & Curry Powder: Fishes are rich in all the goodies that are beneficial for health. And most of us know it. Fishes are source of high protein, low fat food. They are rich in vitamins. And most importantly, they are high in Omega-3 fatty acids. There are two types of Omega-3 fatty acids found in fishes, i.e.: EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). And since these fatty acids are not produced in our bodies, we need those external sources like consuming fishes for these nutrients. And if you are a fan of curry dishes, you will be delighted to know, while prepared as curry, the fishes are known to reduce cancer risk as well.
Mixed Berries: Berries are delicious. Also, these tiny, juicy and yummy orbs are high in nutrients. However, when you eat different berries together, the combination becomes richer in the nutrients. And that is even more beneficial for your health.
Eating healthy is not hard. And it doesn’t necessarily need to taste bland. Just a few alterations in your regular diet can give you a nutrient boost. Try pairing up the mentioned food items and find it out yourself.
