Incredible Thai Dishes that are Worth Trying

There is no denying that Thai food is one of a kind. Not only is it full of flavour, but it also demonstrates attention to detail, texture, colour and the use of ingredients with medical benefits too. Authentic Thai cuisine is known for being exotic and if you have never tried it before, then it is definitely worth doing so.

Thankfully, Thai cuisine is becoming much more popular here in the UK and instead of having to plan a trip to Thailand to get the true experience of this food, there is likely to be lots of incredible local restaurants and takeaways you can turn to. If you’re planning on ordering Thai cuisine for the first time, it goes without saying that you will be spoilt for choice, so to help you narrow down the menu, below is a list of must-try dishes.

Pad Thai

It is fair to say that this is probably one of the most popular dishes to order from a Thai takeaway and rightly so, it is a brilliant choice. Pad Thai is a noodle dish that is often served as street food in Thailand. You can get Pad Thai with seafood, chicken, or as a veggie dish and it has more of a sweet and sour flavour than a spicy flavour.

Thai Green Curry

This is another dish that is commonly chosen when ordering Thai cuisine and you may see it on a menu as Geng Kheaw Wan Gai. This curry is known for its green colour and for being spicy, which is because it is made with green chillies. Although it does contain coconut milk, if you’re not keen on hot curry, then it may not be the best choice for you.

Panang Curry

If you’re looking for a slightly milder curry, then a Panang Curry, also spelt phanaeng and phanang, is a great choice. This is a red Thai curry that is thicker and sweeter than other curry dishes on the menu. It is known for its nutty peanut flavour and it typically contains beef, chicken or shrimp.

Kao Phad Rice

This is the perfect side dish or even a main dish for someone who is looking for something slightly different. Kai Phad is essentially fried rice and it is a favourite for both locals and tourists. This seasoned rice is usually available with a range of additional ingredients, such as; crab, shrimp, pork, and chicken.

Tom Yum Goong Soup

When ordering a local takeaway delivery, Thai soups are another type of dish that is worth trying. This is a ‘hot and sour’ soup and it traditionally contains shrimp or prawns. You may find that some restaurants and takeaways offer chicken or mushroom alternatives though, so if you don’t like seafood, see what other Tom Yum Goong options are available.

Gai Med Ma Muang

This is another stir fry dish and it isn’t too dissimilar from Pad Thai. The dish is essentially just chicken with cashew nuts and a variety of vegetables. It traditionally contains soy sauce and honey, so it isn’t as spicy as some of the other main dishes on a Thai menu. This tends to be a good option for children and it is usually ordered with a side dish of rice.

Getting a local takeaway delivery

All in all, if you order any of the incredible Thai dishes mentioned above, you will have a brilliant first experience of this cuisine. It is fair to say that there is something for everyone in this list and whether you’re looking for something sweet, sour or spicy, you won’t have to compromise. Of course, you may want to order a selection of different starters, mains and sides to get a real feel for the amazing different types of dishes Thai cuisine offers.
