For many people, curries are meant to be creamy dishes, with a slight kick that gets the taste buds working. However, for the select few, Indian cuisine is seen as a way in which to test themselves and see just how much heat they can handle. In times gone past, this just meant ordering a Vindaloo, to impress friends that you were with. This is no longer the case – there is a wide range of dishes now available that make the Vindaloo seem as tame as a Korma.

Should you be one of these individuals that enjoys a challenge, and wants to open themselves up to new and spicy ingredients, please continue reading below. As experts in the field of Indian takeaways, you can be sure that the team here at ChefOnline can advise you on some of the hottest curries available for you to try.

The Kohzi

Originating from the Kerala region of India, this is a curry that will certainly bring tears to your eyes. The Kohzi features an amalgamation of a range of different spices and flavourings to reach its trademark level of spice. With such ingredients as dried chillies, mustard seeds, and coriander seeds, you will need a stomach of steel to tackle this dish. However, it must be noted that it has a reputation for being extremely flavoursome.

The Laal Maas

If you are someone that wants to go on a cultural journey, whilst simultaneously having their taste buds singed, look no further than the Laal Maas. This is a dish that can only be prepared by using chillies that originate within the state of Rajasthan. These red chillies, nicknamed Mathania, are notorious for the heat that they curry; it is these that give the Laal Maas’ sauce a distinct-and-unmissable fire-red colour.

The Misal

Although not technically a curry, we believe that this Indian dish deserves its place on this list. Tracing its roots to Kolhapur, Misal is widely popular in India, thanks to the intensity of its flavours, as well as the ease of which its ingredients can be acquired. With such elements as chilli powder, cumin, and coriander utilised within this meal, there’s no chance of you forgetting this meal in a hurry.

The Phall

It would be impossible to have a list of the spiciest curries, without including the dish that knocked the Vindaloo off of the top spot. The Phall is widely considered to be one of the spiciest curries available. Much of the heat originates from the ground chillies that are included; if you want to really put yourself to the test, you can switch out traditional chillies for a hotter habanero.
